Exchanging Information and Memories at LWML Convention

October 10, 2017  |  Lastest News

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) has been a longstanding supporter of LFD and its
projects worldwide. Within the LWML there are many districts throughout the country. Approximately every 3 years, the districts get together for conventions and our LFD staff try to have a presence, either as speakers or at exhibit tables displaying products and information. The events are also opportunities to interact with LWML members. This fall Rev. Thomas Dunseth, LFD’s Director of Deaf Ministry, joined the Florida-Georgia LWML District Convention in West Palm Beach. Florida is unique among the LWML districts as it is the residence of many women who used to call other states home. In fact, at least a dozen former New Yorkers who know Mill Neck, stopped by the LFD booth at this latest convention. They included Hilda,
who was born and raised on Long Island and has lived in Florida now for 50 years. She came to know the late Pastor Tom Armour and his wife Lois. Pastor Armour, a long-time Mill Neck board member, enthusiastically promoted Mill Neck’s school and Deaf ministry at church and in the community.

Rev. Dunseth also met with a woman named Edith, the wife of a district pastor, also grew up on Long Island and had fond memories of the School for the Deaf, especially of the old spiral slide on the playground. Of this trip, Rev. Dunseth said, “What a joy to be so far away, but in that place are dear friends of Mill Neck; sisters in Christ.”
